Music plays a central role in worship at Trinity Church. Our Rite II Holy Eucharist on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. features organ music, hymns and an anthem sung by the choir. Often solos are presented by choir members. Every Sunday beautiful sacred music fills the sanctuary and serves to lift prayers to the Lord.

Choir

Providing hymns and anthems at the 10:00 am. Holy Eucharist on Sundays, the Trinity choir is an all-volunteer group comprised of parishioners – some of whom have been choir members for decades. Numbering anywhere from six-to-ten singers (SATB), the Trinity choir rivals others that include paid members among their ranks. Trinity is also fortunate to have several members who double as soloists both at the Sunday service and at special services.

The choir rehearses before the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday mornings. New members are always welcome and the ability to read music is not a requirement.

Trinity’s organist and choir director, Mike Kelly, joined us in September 2023 after moving to Providence from southern Vermont. Originally from Ohio, Mike holds degrees in music from the University of Cincinnati (music education, composition, and theory) and has taught music in public schools and at the college level, in addition to serving as a church and theatrical music director throughout his adult life.

Organ

Trinity’s current organ was installed and dedicated in 1999 after a fire destroyed the church’s original organ. The organ is central to Trinity’s musical offerings.  It was built and installed by Schantz Organ Company of Orrville, Ohio. The organ has 25 ranks of pipes played on a two-manual Schantz console, producing a truly glorious sound.

Carillon

The beautiful bells in Trinity’s steeple are a Sonata Carillon that was installed by the Verdin company in 2016. The carillon, while fully automatic and digital, still provides the traditional sound of cast bronze bells. Included are hymns for all seasons and special occasions, as well as chimes.

Trinity’s bells ring on the hour and half hour between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. with the sound of Westminster chimes. Call to worship bells sound before the two services on Sunday mornings. In addition, three seasonal hymns are played daily at 12:02, 3:02, and 6:02 p.m. The bells are rung for special occasions – including festival services, weddings, and funerals.
