Life Events

Wherever you are in your faith journey, you are welcome at Trinity. Our community stands ready to rejoice with you during the joyful times and offer comfort during the difficult ones. You may also find it enriching to include sacramental rites—outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace—at certain points along the way.

Because guidelines from the State of Rhode Island and from the Episcopal Church on safe church reopening practices may change, please contact our priest-in-charge as soon as possible if you are considering any of these sacraments and services.

Baptism

All people of any age who have not already been baptized in another Christian denomination are welcome to be baptized. Through it, we are adopted by God into God’s family—called the Church—and are sealed as Christ’s own forever. Because the sacrament of baptism is generally administered during a Sunday service, it provides an opportunity for those being baptized—and their families—to connect with and receive support from the parish community.

To find out more, please contact our priest-in-charge and read Guidelines for Baptism and an outline for the Baptism Service in the Book of Common Prayer.

Confirmation

Baptized older teens or adults ready to make a mature commitment to Christ may seek to be confirmed. During the sacrament of Confirmation, you receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. In some instances, those who have already been confirmed in another Christain denomination may, instead, be received into the fellowship of the Episcopal Church.

To find out more, please contact our priest-in-charge and read about Confirmation and an outline for the Confirmation Service in the Book of Common Prayer

Weddings

The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage is an expression of Christian community in which two people make their vows before God and the Church. It acknowledges and celebrates the desire to enter a lifelong relationship. The Blessing of a Civil Union is available to those who have been legally married before but wish a religious ceremony at a later date. Trinity welcomes queries from both heterosexual and same-sex couples.

To find out more, please contact our priest-in-charge and read these guidelines from the Book of Common Prayer.

Funerals

While not a sacramental rite, The Episcopal Church’s Burial of the Dead is an important way to celebrate the life of the individual who died while also honoring feelings of grief and sadness. The service includes anthems, psalms, scripture readings, and prayers. Funerals are conducted in the church or, at times, in a funeral home.

To find out more, please contact our priest-in-charge and read these guidelines about Episcopal funeral services from The Book of Common Prayer.
